Guwahati, Nov 10: In a major success in the ongoing war on drugs, the Assam Police on Wednesday
recovered a huge cache of contraband from Rangia in Kamrup (Rural) district.
On receipt of specific intelligence inputs, a Rangia Police team launched a search operation in Pub Saban
area and recovered 1.3 kilograms of suspected opium. The police also arrested two persons in this
connection.
The arrested duo has been identified as Kailash Kalita and Dilawar Hussain. Both are residents of
Rangia’s Udiyana village.
Moreover, a two-wheeler with registration number AS-01BK-6020 and a four-wheeler with registration
number AS-14H-8111 were also seized by the Police following the search operation.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Rangia Police Station and further investigation is in
process.
Led by the Officer- in- Charge of Rangia Police Station, a police team is investigating involvement of
anyone else, apart from the arrested duo. Further, the police are also looking for other angles, like the
possibility of involvement of a larger kingpin in the drug trade.
In another incident on Wednesday, a team from the Panbazar Police Station apprehended a drug
peddler from the Lakhtokia area of the city and recovered 163 grams of heroin filled in 140 small vials. A
drug peddlar identified as Musaraf Ali alias Takla has been arrested in this connection by police.
It may be recalled here that Guwahati Police seized huge quantity of illegal YABA tablets earlier on
November 5 in the city outskirts. As per the police, the seized tablets are worth over Rs. 15 crores in the
market. A total of about 60,000 quantities of YABA tablets were seized about 20 kilometres away from
Guwahati city in Sonapur.
The anti-narcotic operation was led by Joint Commissioner of Guwahati Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
A four-wheeler was intercepted by the police team at Nazirakhat Toll Gate. On searching the vehicle, it
was found that the contraband was concealed in hidden chambers of the vehicle.
Assam Police has seen major successes in recent times, foiling the plans of drug smugglers and
intercepting big hauls of contraband, mainly of illicit drugs in and around the city.
