Guwahati, October 16: Assam’s celebrated designer Sanjukta Dutta showcased her new collection of ethnic and indo- western wear “PALAASH” at the Lakme Fashion Week held in Mumbai recently.

Sanjukta is renowned for her beautiful Mekhela Chador designs and for her contribution in reviving the traditional weaves and the popularity of Assam Silk.

Sanjukta has draped her mesmerizing Mekheka Chadors on many Bollywood celebrities and this time it was the turn of 90’s era Bollywood actress Bhagyashree, of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ fame, to be the showstopper.

With her timeless looks, Bhagyashreelooked elegant and stunning in a Black Mekhela Chador, as she walked the ramp for Sanjukta.

Bhagyashree was happy to speak about her association with the label, saying, “It was wonderful to associate with Sanjukta who has put in exceptional efforts in reviving the authentic weaves of Assam. She has done a lot for women in Assam. She has given so many women an opportunity to work and make these wonderful handloom pieces. I wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

Sanjukta, in her turn,said, “I am so happy to showcase my new collection at the Lakme Fashion Week. It is an amazing platform to promote the weaves and designs of Assam”. She further added, “It was an ecstatic moment for me to have Bhagyashree walk for me as a showstopper. I have always admired Bhagyashree for her serene elegance and beauty. She is looking like an absolute stunner in the Mekhela Chador.”

Designer Sanjukta Dutta’s new festive collection “PALAASH” celebrates the vibrant colours and festive accents of the season. Inspired by traditional Indian motifs and prints, the new designs bring out the joy and grandeur of the festive season in the deep shades of Orange, Red, Purple, Black, which are absolute favourites in all Indian festivities.

The collection, comprising of ethnic and indo- western wear, boasts of a medley of style and simplicity. The “PALAASH” line included Sanjukta’s signature Mekhela Chador and eclectic Sarees, Lehengas, Skirts and western gowns. Sanjukta’s forte is strong Indian fashion aesthetics in assorted Assamese fabrics and this continues to be the highlight of the collection along with a few breakthroughs in prints and motifs.

Even as Sanjukta continues to align fashion with the priceless traditions of India, the new range showcased a fresh and unique set of handcrafted traditions fused with an appealing contemporary style, to suit the desires of the empowered global woman of today.

The intricate detailing and texture in each ensemble made the collection even more stunning, exhibiting the timeless craftsmanship of the Assamese silk weavers on an exuberant color palette. The collection made waves.
