Ranchi, Oct 22: While the cat is still not out of the bag, curiosity reigns in police circles here as to who killed it.

Police in the Jharkhand capital are in the thick of “investigating” the death of a Persian cat, following an FIR registered by the pet owner in the Lower Bazaar police station. The owner who did not wish to be named said that he suspected foul play in the cat’s death.

Confirming the registration of the FIR, Satish Kumar, officer in charge (OC) of Lower Bazaar police station said, “There are times when the police have to handle such cases. We are also duty-bound to ensure protection to pets.”

No one has been detained or arrested in this connection yet, and the case remains the top talking point in the city.

A case of strangulation?

The cat’s death took place on October 20.

“The complainant, a resident of Kanta Toli, said that his pet’s body was recovered from the street without any wound mark, and appeared to have been strangulated,” Kumar said.

The Persian cat was among the owner’s three pet cats and had been living in the family home for the last two years. According to the owner, “She was milky white and loved by all.”
