CAA, NRC ploy to attract voters before Gujarat elections, says Mamata Banerjee

The West Bengal CM says she will never allow the saffron brigade to implement CAA and NRC in her state

Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said she will protect the state with all her strength from BJP’s “divisive politics” but will never allow the saffron brigade to “implement CAA and NRC in Bengal.” The chief minister also claimed that BJP is “using Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) with an eye on the Gujarat Assembly Elections.” .

“People are our strength. Dividing people on the basis of caste, creed, and religion is not Bengal’s value. And I promise you, I shall protect Bengal with all my strength from BJP’s divisive politics, and I assure you that each and every person of Bengal — from Matua to Rajbangshi — you are a citizen of India, and shall always remain so,” said Mamata Banerjee while addressing a mega rally in Bengal’s Krishnanagar on Wednesday.

The TMC chairperson also urged the people of Ranaghat not to pay heed to the “lies of BJP. She said that it’s BJP ploy to attract voters ahead of elections and hence the topics of CAA and NRC are back in circulation. “Before every election, BJP leaders begin lying only to secure your vote and then vanish for the rest of their tenure. As soon as elections approach, BJP leaders begin talking about CAA and NRC to distract you,” Mamata said.

Mamata says BJP will not return to power in 2024 Lok Sabha polls

She also stated that the BJP will not come to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. “I guarantee you that in 2024, BJP will not be coming back to power. They will lose votes in Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and in the North East,” Mamata said. The TMC chief also said that since BJP is unable to fight with TMC politically, therefore, they have let loose the ED and CBI to scare their party leaders and members.

“Whenever any election approaches, the BJP speaks of implementing CAA and NRC. With the Gujarat Assembly polls scheduled later this year, and Lok Sabha elections just a year-and-a-half away, it has again started to flare up the CAA issue,” Mamata said.
