Silchar, Feb. 18: Forest and environment minister Parimal Suklabaidya visited a site at Rajnikhal in south Assam’s Cachar district where a proposed wildlife safari cum rescue centre is going to be set up and took stock of various aspects related to implementation of the project.

Rajnikhal falls under Dholai Assembly constituency, about 35km from Silchar.

A press release issued by the media cell of the forest and environment minister’s office said Suklabaidya visited the wildlife safari cum rescue centre’s site and directed the Cachar district forest officer to expedite the process of setting up the rescue centre.

Once set up, the centre will highly contribute to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals in Barak Valley region which is abundant with flora and fauna of diverse types.

Suklabaidya also visited the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Biodiversity Park in Rengti Hills in Dholai.

Adventure sports like zip lines have been set up at the park to attract tourists.

More than 8,000 tourists have visited the biodiversity park between January 10 (on which the park was inaugurated) and January 31. During the visit, the minister also discussed about the park’s overall development with various stakeholders including the chief conservator of forest, southern Assam zone, the press release said.

A BJP worker, who has close terms with Parimal Suklabaidya, told NewsFileOnline on Wednesday that preliminary works like inspection of the site and other related works were started in 2019 following which necessary formalities regarding the project were done.

The foundation stone for the centre will be laid virtually by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal soon.

The centre, which will be spread over an area of around 200 hectares, is expected to be set up in a span of one-and-a-half years, he said.
